Swiftie’s Ope, 2007
Slate mounted onto wall in the alley that links River St to The Leats, Truro, Cornwall, England
The naming of an unnamed Ope (2. a. Eng. regional (south-west.). An opening; spec. a narrow, usually covered, passage between houses; = OPEWAY n.)
Whilst working under the pseudonym “Swiftie” (in the 2000’s) I installed an alley sign at 2:54am on the 1st Jan, 2007
Swiftie Ope is now offically included on city maps and has become interwoven into the fabric of the city. I am interested in how this art installation has now become permanent and how oral and written histories / myths surround around it.

Unknown woman posing with Swifties Ope sign found on Internet.
